About
Robert p. Weiss
For over fifty years I have painted the urban landscape. At times my interest in this subject has been driven by the complex and diverse forms that this landscape presents, at times by the strong emotions that these images reveal to me about my growing up in this environment, at times as an historical document of a great city and at times as a means of exploring what I believe to be the magic of image making. I feel that all these elements are present in my most personally satisfying work. The absence of people in these paintings is related to my desire to have the viewers relate to the work on their own terms and not see the landscape through the eyes of someone other than the artist and the viewer.
